Hynix was originally Hyundai Memory and was renamed Hynix in 2001.

It changed its name to SK Hynix in 2012.

Hynix semiconductor was established in 1983 as Hyundai Electronics Industry Co., LTD., and was officially listed in Korea in 1996. It acquired LG Semiconductor in 1999 and changed its name to Hynix Semiconductor In 2001, separating itself from Hyundai Group. In October 2004, the company sold its system IC business to Citigroup and became a professional memory manufacturer.In February 2012, SK Group, South Korea's third-largest chaebol, announced the acquisition of 21.05% of Hynix to take control of the memory giant.

On September 5, 2019, South Korea's Joongang Ilbo reported that SK Hynix's semiconductor plant in Wuxi, China, has completely replaced Japanese products with Chinese-made hydrogen fluoride after the Japanese government restricted the export of cutting-edge semiconductor materials such as hydrogen fluoride, photoresist and fluorinated polyimide to South Korea.

There are four 8-inch wafer lines and one 12-inch wafer line in South Korea, and one 8-inch wafer line in Oregon, USA. In 2004 and 2005, the global DRAM market share was second, and the Chinese market share was first. There are sales legal entities and offices all over the world, with a total of 15,000 employees. Hynix semiconductor is making every effort to create a comfortable living environment for customers through semiconductors as an invisible infrastructure. Hynix semiconductor is committed to the production of DRAM and NAND Flash semiconductor products.
